Life Lately: October Vibes

Is it just me or was it just August, like, last week? Somehow we’re already almost through all of October, and it hasn’t quite felt like fall to me yet. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the Colorado fall, and here in California it’s still been pretty warm. Seriously, this week is in the high 80s and low 90s! There’s barely any color changes in the leaves, too, which is kind of weird. But, one way or another, it’s almost November. Wanted to share a few quick photos with a brief update, since it’s been such a busy fall.

A couple of weekends ago, I hiked Mission Peak (a classic Fremont hike) with a friend. It was 85 degrees in the middle of the afternoon and we didn’t bring enough water, and I honestly thought I wasn’t going to make it. My friend pushed me to the top, and even though I probably won’t do that hike again anytime soon, I’m glad we made it. This picture is the view from the top. (Also pretty amazed my friend put up with my complaining, thanks for dealing with me at my worst.)

After trying sushi for the first time this month (and loving it, surprisingly!), I picked up this adorable printed blouse as an homage to my new love for it. All them sushi vibes!

Made homemade hot-pot last weekend, and it was SO good. Still tampering with the broth recipe, but it’ll get there. If you haven’t had hot-pot before, it’s a broth that you cook meat and vegetables in at your table (kind of like Asian fondue, I guess?).

My poor kitty (who lives in Colorado with my parents) had to have a cyst removed above her eye this week, and she looked so scary after! Poor little girl. I guess the timing is all right, with Halloween right around the corner. She can go as a zombie cat, maybe?

Picked up this little Cabin candle and have really enjoyed burning it so far. It’s subtle but freshens up the room with a musky, earthy scent.

And a snapchat from the Pumpkin patch, because what would Halloween be without pumpkins? Side note, I carved mine WAY too early and it’s already mushy. So. Womp womp. But it was still fun, definitely one of my favorite fall traditions. My family always carved pumpkins every year, and I love continuing to do so to celebrate the season.

Anyway, hope things are going well for all of you! Happy Halloween (:

Fall Fashion Inspiration

As sad as I am to be saying “goodbye” to summer, I always look forward to fall. The crispy air, the changing leaves, and of course, the fashion. Is it just me, or is it way easier to put together the perfect looks in the fall? I think it has something to do with layering.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to curate a “quality over quantity” closet this year by cleaning out my closet and only purchasing quality pieces that fit into a collection of clothes that all work together. And I’ve definitely got a few target pieces I’m looking to add to my collection this fall. Here are some fashion pieces that are inspiring me as we swing into Fall (click photos for links):

1. Structured Tops

I’ve been seeing (and LOVING) all the structured tops this year. Bell sleeves, peplum, give it all to me! So into it. These tops are versatile and can be dressed up or down. Fall Fashion Inspiration // Imperfect Chevron

2. Statement Jackets

I’ve always been a fan of statement jackets. I think that you can take a blah basic outfit and transform it into something really special with one really unique piece. Yes, they may not match everything you own, but a statement overcoat can change your whole look and upgrade your layering game.

3. Slide-on Sneakers

These have been around for a while, and I finally just found a light sand colored pair that I’m officially in love with. They’re comfortable and look amazing with jeans, especially skinny or boyfriend style jeans.

4. Barely There

Supermodels like Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Kendall Jenner have been all over this style for a while, but I am officially on board with the “lingerie” style camis. They’re comfortable and breezy, and are honestly an effortless way to look well-dressed. I do caution, though, the best way to style these while remaining professional is to make sure not too much actual lingerie is showing underneath. A little peek of lace is subtle and sexy, but you don’t want to show the whole bra.

5. Short Skirt / Long Jacket

I’ve always loved the look of long-sleeve tops with shorts or mini-skirts, and I love this cozy version with a pink suede skirt. I actually purchased a pink suede skirt last spring and haven’t had the right chance to wear it out yet, but this picture made me want to wear it ASAP. Love the balance of a chunky knit with a soft mini.

So that’s all I’ve got for now! I’m sure in another month or so I’ll be ready to share some more pieces I’m dreaming of. Now that we’re all in the fall spirit, who else is ready for Halloween?! *raises hand*

Life Update: Fall Feelings

It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through October, especially with the nice weather we’ve been having in Denver! I’ve been milking it to wear shorts as long as I possibly can, because I know the winter lasts so so long and I’ll be really missing my shorts soon enough. Anyway, I do love Fall in Colorado. The leaves are really beautiful right now, and I will go slightly out of my way to step on any crunchy-looking leaves (: Anybody else love that? I’m also always really excited about Halloween, because it’s my favorite holiday, but I’m also sort of sad that I don’t have any plans this year yet. Because I really love dressing up, but I’m not about to put a costume on to sit on my couch.

Here’s some photos of life lately:

My parents and I hiked at White Ranch on Sunday morning, and it was the least crowded I’ve ever seen that trail! I love hiking so much. Just look at that view:

My pets are the sweetest two I’ve ever known, and they’re definitely best friends:

Loving the contrast of the yellow leaves against the blue sky. Just a good reminder to look up more!

I made this amazing salsa verde (tomatillo) this weekend for carnitas tacos (yes, I know I’m obsessed with carnitas and you’re sick of hearing about it). You guys, I think if I could just eat carnitas and then sleep, that would be just about the perfect day.

My family has a Denver Zoo membership still, and we use it so much (we really, really like animals). This fall, they have this amazing exhibit called “Washed Ashore,” with these enormous animal sculptures all around the zoo. The kicker, though, is that they’re all created with trash that washed up on the beach. It’s such a powerful statement, and reminder to be more conscious of how much trash we’re producing and how much of that trash is ending up in the oceans. If you’re in the Denver area, get yourself to the zoo and check it out for a limited time:

I got my hair chopped, too! New season, new hair. It’s a little shorter than I originally asked for, but the style is really perfect and I’m loving it. The style is a little shaggy a-line bob, so the front is a lot longer than the back. I love it because I just blot my hair with a towel, add a little sea salt spray and scrunch lightly, and then let my hair just be it’s natural self.

Currently I’m…September

This month has really flown by. It’s been a blur of job hunting, stressing over phone interviews, and lots of thrift store madness (projects galore). I’ve been kind of slacking on these “Currently I’m…” posts, but here’s what I’ve been up to so far in September:

Here’s to welcoming a Fall season full of changing leaves, learning French, and saving up my to buy my first DSLR camera. Also, fingers crossed I can land a “dream job” this season–I’ll keep you all posted on that. (: Thanks for your continued support and good vibes!

Currently I’m…November

After a 6 week test streak (yes, it was as horrible as it sounds), I’m finally feeling a little less stressed. This semester has challenged me mentally, physically, and emotionally, and while I still love the career path that I’ve chosen, I couldn’t be happier that there are only 4 weeks left.

But enough about school! I can’t believe next week is already Thanksgiving–I’m having my bestie from California over for the 2nd annual Thanksgiving pizza party. Since neither of us can fly home for the short holiday break, it’s nice to have someone to hang out with (read: someone I force to watch “Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s” reruns with me while stuffing our faces with homemade pizza). It should be a good holiday! What are your Thanksgiving plans?

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

Life Update: Fall Feelings

October has just flown by–can you believe that this weekend is Halloween?

Life has been a little bit of a jumbled mess around here lately between 6 straight weeks of midterm exams, lots of group project deadlines, and just general mid-semester craziness. I’m really happy that this semester is getting closer to the end, but I’m starting to get sad about saying “goodbye” to all of my friends! Here’s some snapshots from the last couple of weeks.

Carnegie Museum Ticket

The Carnegie Museum has the cutest tickets; I went with some girlfriends a few weeks back.

Fall Leaves

Some pretty fall leaves I found on my walk in the park.

Bombolini

The prettiest bombolini from my favorite Italian market; after 3 weeks of tests, I needed to treat myself.

Schenley Park

Schenley Park is my happy place.

Tacos

There’s a great taco stand near my school, these chicken tacos are the best.
